News Reader, Anchor & Producer Ena Bhargava Shares Her Empowering Story With JWB

It was a lovely surprise for Ena Bhargava when Team JWB reached her place to write about her life story.  When Ena’s daughter wrote an email to us asking to plan this surprise, her only motive was to let the world know how strong and capable her mother is.

Ena welcomed us with open arms at her place, and then went on to tell her story. A story that had her working as a News Reader and gradually promoting herself as one of the finest Producers our city has.

Below are the excerpts from our chat with her:

How did it all begin?

It was 1987 when one of my acquaintances, who used to admire my voice, invited me to his workplace, Doordarshan. He recommended my name as a News Reader, and after listening to my voice during a test recording, I was offered the job immediately. I still remember heavily sweating on my first day at work when I was supposed to read the Employment News. I consider myself fortunate to have grabbed that job, however, it was my hard work that took me forward. The combination is the key to success.

My Husband’s one idea changed my life forever.

Seeing me work with dedication, he asked me to start creating my own shows for the channel. I began with a show that was to be telecast during Diwali. I planned to rope in few sponsors in order to make the program more effective for the audience. The show was supposed to be aired on DD1. Believe it or not, I managed to receive a sponsorship of Rs. 15,000 from one of the sponsors, and this was during the late 80s.

After this, I did shows like ‘Yeh Janta Sab Janti Hai’, ‘Karamrath’, ‘Good Evening Rajasthan’, ‘Yeh Hai Haqueekat’, etc. I also produced some music video albums to promote our state’s folk music, like ‘Khel Nagari’, ‘Sawan Special Songs’, ‘Teej Special Songs’, etc.

Later, I went on to do election campaigns like ‘Suraj Sankalp Yatra’. I cannot forget how our CM, Ms. Vasundhara Raje, appreciated my work and creativity. After this, the journey was non-stop and I kept receiving govt. tenders for creating Public Feedback, Public Awareness, and Public Disclaimer programs.

Career milestone.

I, along with my team, made this documentary about the infamous Jaipur bomb-blast called ’13 Mai Gulabi Nagari’. The movie is about the efforts made by police and public together. It’s about the unity Jaipur showed during the harsh time. We could release this film in few theaters of Jaipur. We planned a successful promotion for it, and hence, it was received quite well by Jaipurites.

Another star that was added in my resume was when I did the show ‘Sur Badle Kaise Kaise’. The show played classic Hindi songs while discussing the sensitive topics – Raags & Raagini. It was loved by the masses. I had been given many appreciation letters from the govt., state ministers, and other renowned personalities for the same.

I now want to focus on directing and producing quality TV serials. Since my kids are all grown-up, I think I can now travel to make my work more appealing. I look forward to my bright future.
