Female Stunt Rider Anam Hashim Does Wheelie With Her ‘Sparky’ Secrets

At an age when most of us are struggling to crack that desired University or get through that much-awaited job, this 21-year-old is taking the world on a wheelie by claiming to be the youngest female stunt rider in the country.

A lot of us have fantasized about bikes and cars as kids and so did Anam Hashim. Her love for bikes started at the age of 5. And let me tell you that it wasn’t just another fling.

We had a candid chat with this super biker who revealed to us her favorite memory with her ‘partner’ and all the ups and downs in their relationship!img_1 (1)

Me: Was it difficult to convince your parents *pun intended*?

Anam: Well, my father introduced me to biking. But yes, with stunt riding they were not really convinced because obviously like all other parents they thought it was very risky, especially for a girl. Actually, in India stunt riding is a sport which is still growing. People haven’t really started treating it as a sport the way it’s treated in other countries and I guess it is going to take a while for that to change.

Me: Who was your audience to your first stunt?

Anam: I started trying stunts on my Honda Activa, and my audience included only my younger brother. We went on a highway where one of the lanes was closed and I saw some guys performing stunts on their bikes. Since I didn’t have a bike, I thought I might just try on my Activa and I did! But yes I had my license and everything in place since the time I started.

Anam

Me: What do you think your Activa would have said to you after you had performed the stunt?

Anam: Haha! I don’t know what it would have told me. Everything went so smooth; it felt like I am flying in the air. It was simply unbelievable!

Me: What do you call your Apache RTR 160 with love?

Anam: I call my Apache “*Sparky*” because it is purple and black in color and it has glitter over it which sparkles in the sunlight.

Anam

Me: What is your favorite memory with your bike?

Anam: The most beautiful memory I have is with my TVS Scooty Zest when I drove to Khardung La pass. Khardung La pass is the highest motorable road in the world and having driven there on a Scooty is by far my most favorite memory.

Also, I promised to do something crazy when I reached Khardung – La. So this is what I did when I got there on my Scooty.

Anam

Me: What is your favorite stunt?

Anam: I love doing the wheelies. Tank spreader wheelie is my favorite. At the same time, I want to learn shocker wheelies because if I do that I’ll get a step closer to competing in international competitions.

Me: Who do you think are more surprised with your stunts, men or women?

Anam: Well, I’d believe it’s both, in our country. I have been laughed off hell number of times. I am just 5’4 and I am very lean and petite. So yaa, a lot of people have laughed at me thinking A) I am a girl, and  B) I am short and too thin.

I asked, “How do you react to these people”?

Anam: Ohh, I take it very positively. I love their reaction and I wait for the time I get on my bike. I have seen people’s reactions changing and those jaw dropping expressions when they see me perform on my bike!

Anam

Me: What is your most memorable bruise?

Anam: Haha, I don’t know if it was memorable but recently I was trying to ride a dirt bike for the first time. I was in Bangalore and I was trying to ride uphill and I along with the bike crashed on the ground and hurt my knee terribly.

Me: If your bike was a human being, what relationship would you have with it?

Anam: My bike is really special to me. I guess if it were a human being it would be my boyfriend or no my life partner! I make sure I take good care of it and pamper it as much as I can.

Me: Do you know how to repair your bike?

Anam: Ohh yaa, now I know! I have done an engineering course with Maruti Suzuki 800. I have learned there.

Anam

Me: Any tips for girls?

Anam: I guess the most important thing is to be mentally and physically fit. Apart from that, I guess the mindset of the people has to change. Once they become okay with the idea of stunting and accept it as a sport for girls too, things will become easier.
