It’s that time of the year when kids are like:

Sandhya Menon, the Chief Editor of ZenParent.in, an online community which provides ideas, support, and practical tools to explore the various stages of parenthood, gave some zen summer vacations tips to the parents:

One, do not be hesitant or afraid of asking for help. If your parents, grandparents, or relatives are asking you to send your kids to spend a day or few with them, then, do not act like a super parent who can manage everything on their own. If they are reaching out to help then give them that opportunity. It will not only take some of your load off but, it will also help your kids bond with the family.

Two, not to sound sexist, but, during the summer vacations, kids want their mommy time more. So, for the working mothers, it is important to plan ahead with their employers to seek permissions for shorter work hours or work-from-home options for them.

Three, do not overtax your child with too many activities. It is essential for the parents to spend at least one or two hours with their kids and communicate with them. And, you should give your full attention to them. No phones or TV or laptop!

Four, it might sound silly to some people, but planning activities for the kids well ahead of time is something I do religiously and would recommend every parent to follow. I sit down every Sunday and plan ahead for next two weeks. From meals to outdoor activities and social events, I have a broad sketch of everything I need to arrange for the coming days. It really helps, trust me!

All said and done, my last piece of advice would be to take one night off from your kids every week. You need some bonding time together too. It will not only relax the parents but also prepare them for the coming days.

Sandhya asserted that if the parents would follow this advice, they’ll successfully make it through the summer vacations.
