When it comes to Parsi food, the simple combination of rice, dal, and prawns in a spicy tomato sauce and the famous Dhandar Patio… oh, the ultimate delicacy. But with time the Parsi culture seems to be disappearing, and with that goes the ultimate world of cuisine this culture has. Well, thanks to Villie Mehta and the ladies of the Time & Talents Club in Mumbai, the world is not bereft of the delicious Parsi cuisine.
In the Parsi Community, Villie Mehta is known for running the kitchens of Victory stall at Apollo Bunder (circa 1965) and also as the editor of Millennium Recipes 2004. ‘Classic Recipes’, which is a collection of over 2,000 recipes, was also curated by her. She collected, from families, recipes that belonged to as far as the 1930s, all of them original without any alterations and many having quirky quotes as they come from the originally written pages of family collections.
So, if you’re are looking for a guide to learn more about the Parsi cuisine and want to be a pro at making their delicacies in no time then this is the book for you. It is much more than a treasure trove of recipes, it’s the history the entire Parsi community has written with time.
