Debunk Your Myths About Breast Sagging & Learn How To Prevent It

Sagging breasts are every woman’s nightmare. After all, it’s an unavoidable thing as you age. Do you also think that breastfeeding, wearing wrong bra lead to breast-sagging? Well, they are nothing but myths. Let’s talk in details & debunk 5 most common myths:

  1. Breastfeeding causes sagging

Not breastfeeding, but pregnancy itself is responsible for sagging breasts. Mary Jane Minkin, clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Yale University, says: “Breasts increase in size with pregnancy and stay enlarged with breastfeeding, but they then slowly shrink back down once a woman is done nursing,” she says. “That weight loss and deflation of the breasts can make them sag.”

  1. Wearing wrong bra size/wearing a bra every time affects breast-sagging

No, the push-up bras don’t help prevent sagging. Also, not wearing a bra to bed is totally fine. That won’t lead to breast sagging ever, so let your body relax while you sleep. Of course, one should wear a sports bra during exercise because extreme running or jumping can stretch the breast tissue and possibly lead to sagging.

  1. Small breasts don’t sag

Every breast is made up of same tissues that tend to react similarly. Even small breasts are subject to gravity. But yes, they sag a bit less than larger ones because there’s less tissue pulling down.

  1. Certain exercises can remove sagging

Breasts don’t contain muscles, so there aren’t any exercises that can specifically help to retain the shape. However, exercising the chest muscles, especially the pectoralis major muscle, can help.

  1. Nothing can be done to prevent sagging

Good news is, you can! Doctors say, “If a woman gains a lot of weight, her breasts will stretch out just as the rest of her skin will. However, if she then loses that weight, she’ll be left with the extra skin, which just sags because it no longer has all that tissue holding it up. Always maintaining a healthy weight will likely help.”

Want to know more on how women can prevent breast sagging? Read below:

  1. Chest Exercises

To add firmness, pushups are a great exercise to try because they shape up the breast and reduce the excess fat deposits around the chest. Lifting weights with arm curls, chest presses and dumbbell flys also helps.

  1. Right Posture

When you lower your shoulder forward, you don’t give your breasts proper support. This leads to them falling due to gravity. So sit up straight!

  1. Special Bras

These bras have strong support holders on the bottom of the cups that keep breasts lifted and looking firm. Also, never skip wearing a sports bra while you go to gym or for walking in the nearby park.

  1. Olive Oil Massage

Massaging the breasts at least 2-3 times per week with olive oil can actually help to add firmness to your skin. Massaging draws blood to the surface of the skin and helps to stimulate muscle growth and cell repair, which improves the elasticity of the skin’s surface.

  1. Yoga

Yoga tones our entire body, including breasts. The Triangle Pose, Cobra Pose and the Standing Forward Bend are the best positions for strengthening the chest muscles. Additionally, headstands, backstands and the Inverted Leg Stretch are poses that help to battle the effects of gravity on breasts.
