In a blatant example of the rampant misogyny, the Kottayam District Police issued a notice, asking girls to never “take selfies with boys” and upload such images on social media platforms. The notice also advised parents to check their daughter’s phones and find out whether the contacts they have are actually female friends or boys.

They shared the instructions on their Facebook page following the arrest of 20 men who allegedly raped a 16-year-old.

They even suggested parents to regularly check their children’s chats on online messaging services, their bags and cupboards, without letting their child know. Their other weird suggestions included asking the parents to not allow their children to use their phones for setting alarms. In fact, they preached to not use the phone even if there is an emergency.

People didn’t take well to these bizarre instructions and called out the Kottayam District police for posting such things.
