This Muslim Woman Is Making People Understand Her Faith Through Food

Hungry stomachs – starving bodies – crazy minds!

Food is one love shared by all!

When this thought hit Amanda Saab, she brought it into action.

Amanda Saab, a Detroit-based social worker, and blogger calls up guests from her community for meals and help them understand her religious beliefs. She ensures that these meet-ups are open conversations so as to help the society become a beautiful and inclusive place.

This idea came to her when she was watching the news on TV after work, one day. She had also expressed her distress about the Muslim community being depicted in a negative light, in her blog. She wrote, she wanted to be “more available, open and welcoming” to people from various corners having questions about Islam.

Being supported by her husband, Hussein Saab, Amanda invited their colleagues and friends for an open discussion on faith over a home-cooked meal. Saab has shared with NBC News video, “For us, culturally and religiously, it’s so important to be hospitable and treat others with respect and kindness… So let’s start at a basic fundamental need that we all need, which is nourishment and let’s not only nourish our stomachs but let’s nourish our minds.”

Since her first meal in January 2016 in Seattle, Washington, and then in Detroit, Michigan, several guests have visited their house for an interfaith dinner. She has even taken the event to many Universities where she offered fresh food to students and talked about religion and faith.

Recently, Saab posted the campaign on Facebook when a few guests gathered at her home in Detroit. She also shared the menu, which included Garlic Herb Butter, Pesto Chicken with Alfredo pasta, Roasted Rosemary Potatoes, Asparagus, Fig and Goat Cheese Crostini and a Citrus Salad.

I wish I was amongst the invited guests! *wink*

The huge engagement of the meet compelled Saab to express her gratitude on her Facebook page, “I enjoyed hearing your perspectives and experiences and hope we can continue to work together to make our world the place we want it to be”

Amanda has truly become a transformative force!
