A pair of wings, the calm of music, the comfort of tea, the ease of a daydream. These are but a few of the manifestations that a sanitary pad got in the hands of artist Rajkamal.
To mark the World Menstrual Hygiene Day yesterday, Rajkamal created artwork using a sanitary pad and we can’t stop gushing after the results.
Period art is slowly catching up as people are now employing it as an effective medium to raise awareness and break the taboo around periods. You must have come across a variety of period art and a majority of it must have inspired a sense of unease, mostly owing to our inhibitions pertaining to periods. Rajkamal’s latest series on period art, however, is oddly comforting, so much so, that you’d almost be inclined to call it adorable.
Don’t trust me? Here, take a look at what he has created:
However, creating period art is not a first for Rajkamal who believes that art is “a humble way to protest against something you don’t like.”
“My mission is to tell people that there is nothing gross about periods or period blood. Second, men must understand that menstruating women are also beautiful. Blood flow doesn’t make them impure in any way. It is, in fact, the highest form of life,” he said about his period art last year in an interaction with IWB.
