You Would Love To Add This Gay Animated Film To Your 2017 Watchlist

Remember what most people thought when “Finding Dory” released its trailer?

Eventually, netizens started extending their appreciation towards Pixar believing that it showed the first uniquely homosexual couple in an animated film and some started criticizing for “shoving an agenda” on people.

Soon the air of suspense vanished when actor Ellen revealed that the two characters who are believed to be a couple were nothing but a misunderstanding.

Well, LGBTQ has never been quite a familiar topic in animated films, until two young students touched base upon it.

Students of the Ringling College of Art and Design in Florida have created “In a Heartbeat”, an animated short film that pictures the story of a young boy living in the closet. When this boy gets attracted to another boy who he thinks is actually the boy of his dreams, he can’t control his happiness. His heart literally pops out of his chest while chasing his lover.

This short film project ran a Kickstarter with a mission to raise $3,000 and has since then collected over $14,000. Garnering much appreciation, a Tweet about the short went viral and received over 100,000 likes.

The creators of “In a Heartbeat”, Beth David and Esteban Bravo said, “Being gay is a subject that hasn’t been widely explored in computer animation,” Bravo explained. “Nine out of ten LGBT youths have reported instances of bullying based on their orientation and identity within the past year.”

“We want to put out a message of love and self-acceptance to all the kids and young people who struggle to identify as LGBT+,” David continued.

In 4 minutes, the pair hopes it instills understanding “that the heart wants what the heart wants, and there’s nothing wrong with that”.

An animated gay film makes my heart skip a beat. So if it does yours too, you’ll just have to wait until the end of the year when it will release for free.
