Maya Shankar is a US citizen and is a ‘Science advisor to the President’. Wondering how a musician happened to be a Science Advisor? Here’s the story…
Maya studied in the famous Juilliard School of Music until the age of 15 when she suffered from severe hand injury that forced her to give up the violin.
When she had to take her big decision of making a career-change, she thought of cognitive science. Soon after that, she graduated from the Yale University followed by a Ph.D. at Oxford on the Rhodes Scholarship and finally the post-doctoral program at Stanford.
Of course, with such degrees you gotta be the President’s Senior Advisor at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy!! Sigh.
