This Haryanavi Bride Took The 8th Phera To Educate 11 Girls

The wedding season is in full swing and brides-to-be would be entirely engrossed in shopping and maneuvering every minutest detail. Wedding from centuries has been an exclusive affair for Indians as the ‘Happily Ever After’ begins (roller coaster ride, to be precise).
A bride to be rather Powerpuff bride-to-be from Haryana surely deserves roars of cheers from us. Poonam, daughter of a village teacher, enthralled one and all on the day of her wedding.
Talking to TOI, Poonam said she had heard about the eighth phera introduced in Bhiwani by a Red Cross official some years ago. That phera was a pledge by the couple not to indulge in female foeticide. “But I know that most campaigns rarely see success. Keeping this in mind, I wanted to do something challenging and something that will change some lives,” she said.
This reminds me of this another bride who refused to walk the aisle when she figured out that her to-be husband isn’t SMART enough to use a smartphone. I am sure more such brides refuse to be a puppet and give in to irrational demands.
