Born as Norma Jeane Mortenson on June 1, the iconic Marilyn Monroe who was famous for her platinum blonde hair and signature red lipstick was remembered on her 91st birth anniversary recently.

Monroe had a really tough childhood. She kept shifting base from one foster home to another and went through traumatic experiences in almost all of them. In her young days, she was sexually abused. Though she married at the age of 16, nothing could bring her happiness.

However, her career took off in 1944 when she began working in a military factory and was introduced to a photographer from the U.S. Army Air Force’s First Motion Picture Unit.

This relationship initiated her modeling career and resulted in film contracts with Twentieth Century Fox and Columbia Pictures.

Well, Marilyn’s career and happiness didn’t last long. She committed suicide in 1962. The pictures below will take you through her journey from being Norma Jeane Mortenson to Marilyn Monroe.
