“They thought I was a surrealist, but I wasn’t. I never painted dreams, I painted my own reality.”
In those bold eyebrows and mustache, Frida Kahlo, who was her own favorite model and muse, was one of the most celebrated Mexican painters. We all have been inspired by her art, fashion choices, political stance and clothes till date!
Aren’t we blown over Kahlo’s choices?
Well, here’s a visual treat for those who have been all gaga over her clothes and accessories. Kahlo has left behind her unique collection of clothes, which were revealed to the public once again after being locked away for almost 50 years.
Frida’s husband who didn’t want his wife’s collection to be disclosed to the world decided to seal her things in the bathroom of their Mexico City home and ordered to keep them hidden away until 15 years after his death in 1957.
Kahlo’s belongings were left locked until 2004 until the museum decided to catalog its content.
Renowned Japanese photographer Ishiuchi Miyako, was the lucky man behind the lens to click and preserve Kahlo’s wardrobe items which were more than 300 in number. He did this beautiful job just by using a 35mm Nikon camera and a natural light.
Aren’t they gorgeous?
Here are some more!
