A recent study revealed that about 18% women in India, especially in East India, suffer from Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). PCOS is a disorder which causes infertility in women.

This research was done by the Metropolis Healthcare, a multinational chain of pathology laboratories, among young women. They collected 27,411 samples of testosterone over a period of 18 months. Out of this, about 4824 women were found to have a risk of PCOS.

The increasing trend of PCOS is predominantly seen in the child bearing age group of 15 to 30 years.

Dr. Sonali Kolte, General Manager Medico Marketing, Metropolis Healthcare said, “Early diagnosis and treatment can help control the symptoms. Cosmetic symptoms of PCOS include facial hair, thinning of the scalp and acne. Gynecological symptoms include irregular or scanty periods which are usually the first red flag in adolescents.”

If you notice these symptoms in your body, consult an expert gynecologist asap.
