Sharing Illustrations Of Every Kind Of Vulva, This Page Teaches Us To Embrace Ourselves First

Every once in a while, our aimless scrolls across Instagram land us on something worthwhile and pathbreaking. One such page is The Vulva Gallery, which brings to us a series of illustrations of all kinds of vulvas – celebrating the vulva in all its diversity all over the world. Via their page, they are asking people to stand up against this culture of beauty standards that have created the image of a ‘perfect vulva’ which is the only ‘normal.’

This ‘perfect’ image has made many of us whose vulva looks far from this distorted theory of perfection, believe that we don’t fit in the ‘normal.’ Breaking this very notion, The Vulva Gallery shares personal accounts of women from around the world, as they share their own journey of loving themselves as they are, like this latest confession on their page.

“At age 15 my vulva changed. For me, it was a dramatic change, that ruined many years of my life. I don’t know how many tears I have cried, but I guess I could fill up a swimming pool. I have struggled with an eating disorder for 15 years, and mentally from age 15 until today (at 36 years old) because of my issues. When I started being sexually active, I cried every time I had sex with a new partner, and my issues have ruined a lot of my relationships, because of my hangups regarding my vulva,” said an anonymous woman.

This is a vulva portrait of a lovely person, together with the words she wanted to share with you: “At age 15 my vulva changed. For me it was a dramatic change, that ruined many years of my life. None of the guys/girls I’ve had sex with, have ever said anything but positive things, but in my head there is something wrong with my vulva. And I have always believed that everyone else thinks the same way I do. I have never ever seen a woman in real life with long inner labia, so I thought it was just me. My current boyfriend has really pushed my limits regarding my vulva, and I hated him for that for a long time. He says that he really loves it, and I want to believe him! I have always found long inner labia very sexy, but I hated my own. There are so many beautiful vulvas in The Vulva Gallery, so I’m slowly starting to accept my own. But I have a long way to go. The Vulva Gallery: thank you!” . .
