Sometimes I feel even after we accept ourselves and love the body we are born into, people around us would have some problem or the other.
Similar was the case with Ash Soto, who was diagnosed with vitiligo when she was 12. Soon her vitiligo, which is a rare skin disease which causes pigment loss, leaving large white patches all over the body, started spreading, and people began teasing her for this condition.
She felt really hurt and ashamed of her skin when a little girl asked her if she had showered in bleach after seeing the white pigmentation all over her body.
But the 21-year-old knew how to love her scars and embrace the body she was given.
“I was so shocked that someone said that to me that I cried and cried, I didn’t want to have the condition anymore,” Soto said.
Living up to her decision, Soto decided to fight back by facing the public who did nothing but shamed her. She began by walking with her head high in public without covering her hands with a full sleeves shirt. And by doing this, she slowly started turning her body into a beautiful masterpiece.
“I never realized how beautiful my vitiligo was until I traced it with a black marker, it really helps to bring out the different colors of my skin,” Soto said to Daily Mail. “Now what others would perceive as an imperfection I have made into something more beautiful and made it more accepted than before.”
Soto decided to make her body look like different art pieces, including Van Gogh’s Starry Night. She started drawing around the white patches which ashamed her once. And you know while drawing, she figured that they looked like a world map.
“I will continue creating different pieces of art with my skin and hope it inspires others in the process!”
