It was the bikini-round at the Miss Universe Great Britain when contestant Muna Jama walked the ramp wearing a flowy printed kaftan. Definitely, she was bound to create some headlines.
And while everyone wondered how that could happen, it was revealed that the stunner was allowed her right to be herself on the ramp.
It was the swimsuit round but Muna, a practicing Muslim, chose to cover her body. She is the Co-Founder of Cloudless Research, a start-up tackling illegal migration and child abuse in east Africa.
There is nothing in this world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and a goat bleating ? ?? #summer2017 #goat #bleat #somaliland #somalia #black #laughing #laughter

A proud highlight for me this year, what an amazing experience! I made history! The contestants and I raised so much money and most importantly raised awareness for Strongbones Children’s Charity and Sheroes Hangout in India. Opportunities like this do not come around often so it’s important to make the most and take in every moment like it’s your last. I have had a great and positive response from people from all walks of life and could not be more thankful that this opportunity has made our paths cross. Big thank you to Paula and Miss Universe for the chance and of course I can’t forget the lovely ladies that I had the pleasure to share the stage with – to all the Miss Universe Great Britain finalist ??? and congratulations to Anna Burdzy, well done beautiful! ????? #missuniverse #maraldress #mugb2017 #onecrown #blacksash #munajama #missuniversegb #pageant #dress #eveningwear #London #NewYork #Paris #girls #women #power #strength #empowerment #red #black #white #MissUniverse #page #pageantry #catwalk #Model #history @missuniversegb . Muna is a 27-year-old woman from Forest Gate. She applied for Miss Universe GB two years ago but couldn’t be a part of it back then after she learned about their strict rule that asked the applicants to be prepared for the bikini/bathing suit round. She informed the organizers about her discomfort that was keeping her from participating.

However this time around, after beating off tough competition in the UK finals, she once again applied and started campaigning for the right to wear a kaftan. Muna told Metro, “I wouldn’t wear a bikini to a beach, so I’m not going to wear one in a competition to score points.” Result: she was granted the permission. You go, girl!
