PT Usha recently wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for all the right reasons.
“It is indeed shocking news to the Indian sports community. It is totally undemocratic and condemnable to the maximum extent possible,” says PT Usha.
What is it that has caused such turmoil, you may ask? Well, read ahead.
Apparently, School Games Federation of India (SGFI) – the national apex body for organizing various sports and games among all Indian schools, has put forward a decision to organize athletic events for boys and girls separately.
Yeah, the problem lies in the last word of that sentence. Isn’t this sexism on a whole new level?
“When the world is crying loudly against gender discrimination and for equality among men and women, this attitude of SGFI cannot be justified at any cost,” she added.
By the way, just as a casual matter of fact, let me also tell you that the International Association of Athletic Federation and the Athletic Federation of India, at present organizes combined events for men and women at the same time and the same venue.
Reflecting on this fact, Usha says that SGFI’s decision is a violation of human rights.
“It is also against the international Olympic Charter, which our country signed a century before,” she further mentions.
With her letter, Usha has demanded of the PM to look into the matter personally and do the just and the needful.
Meanwhile, let us keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best!
