The documentary “India’s Daughter” that was banned in India, in the best interests of the “country” has been backed by Hollywood actress Meryl Streep to be worthy of winning an Academy Award.
It was in 2012 that Nirbhaya left us with our eyes teary and hearts quenched in disgust and anger. The documentary brought back the rush of emotions that we felt when it happened.
Oscar winning Streep had introduced the documentary at its US Theatrical release in NYC said that it deserved the movie industry’s highest honour.
“I’m on campaign now to get her nominated for best documentary,” she said referring to the director of the film, Leslee Udwin.
If you haven’t watched the film, it has even talked to one of the rapists, Mukesh Singh, who blamed the girl for being out in the night. He said that she deserved to be raped because she was roaming around with a boy.
“When I first saw the film, I couldn’t speak afterwards”, Meryl Streep added.
