Mamata Banerjee Nominates 17 Women Out Of 42 Candidates For Lok Sabha Elections

For the Lok Sabha elections, Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday released her party’s list of candidates, nominating 17 women among the party’s contestants from 42 seats in the state.
Talking about the move, Banerjee said, “We believe in women’s empowerment. In 2014, 35 percent of our MPs were women. I am happy to share that this time 41 percent of our Lok Sabha candidates are women.”
Trinamool’s women candidates include Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Mahau Moitra, movie stars Mimi Chakraborty and Nusrat Jahan, and Mausam Noor, the niece of former railways minister, the Late ABA Ghani Khan Choudhary.
