After Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai, Madhuri Dixit, Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Anil Kapoor, Asha Bhonsle, and many other famous celebrities, it was the statue of the iconic beauty – Madhubala – that was recently revealed at the Madame Tussauds Museum, Delhi.
Her wax statue shows her in the character of ‘Anarkali’ from the 1960 classic Mughal-E-Azam, a role that is still praised worldwide.
Madhubala’s sister, Madhur Brij, attended the launch and said how a number of artists were involved in an extensive research to study Madhubala’s life. She said, “Madhubala lived a short life but achieved a lot in that short span of time. In those days, acting was not considered appropriate for women but with her remarkable acting skills and timeless beauty she created a mark for herself and is remembered with warmth till date.”
She further remembered, “We were never allowed to go and see her during the shoots. The only visit I remember was to the sets of Mughal- E-Azam to see the replica of the Sheesh Mahal where the song ‘Jab pyar kiya to darna kya’ was filmed. The set was a huge attraction for tourists.”
Madame Tussauds in Delhi is managed by Merlin Entertainments and so far has more than 50 wax figures of famous personalities from the fields of sports, cinema, politics, history, and music. Anshul Jain, general manager and director at Merlin Entertainments India, said, “We are ecstatic to be unveiling Madhubala’s figure in Delhi. She is unarguably one of the most beautiful women the world has seen and her aura remains amongst her fans even today.”
