JWB Spent World Kindness Day With Saraswati Jain In SMS Hospital

87-year-old Saraswati Jain has never missed out a single day visiting patients in Bangad hospital in last thirty years. Hearing her enthusiastic voice when she hands on a food parcel to each patient, no one can say that she is a heart patient suffering from severe arthritis. It seems like the blessings of poor are working as energy fuel that keeps her young to serve needy people.

IMG_1151Four main wards: the trauma centre, the cardiac, neurosurgery and the burn unit have been adopted by Mrs. Jain long ago.

Every day she brings boxes of the packed food along with fruits, medicines, biscuits, sweets etc for patients as well as the staff of the hospital. All the facilities in the wards including bed sheets, coolers, heaters, curtains, fans, lights, tables, chairs etc. have been arranged by her. Popularly known as mataji, she takes personal care of every patient.

IMG_1244Mrs. Jain’s son and daughter-in-law are doctors in America. They regularly send her money to do the charity. Apart from the finances Saraswati Ji receives from her son, she raises money from philanthropists.

IMG_1274Saraswati Ji’s foray into Sawai Mansingh Hospital happened after her daughter-in-law had been admitted with a head injury. She saw the terrible conditions of patients in the hospital and pledged to change it.

IMG_1246She started with bringing milk for a few families in the wards that she adopted. She also got a medical shop outside the hospital authorized to give free medicine to help the needy.

According to Mrs. Jain, No one has ever become poor by giving. Being generous isn’t even always about providing money and real tangible benefits, one can invest time and kind words of support. What I do for these patients is my way of thanking god for the beautiful life I have been living.

IMG_1128Her charitable deeds are not only limited to the hospital. On the outskirts of Jaipur, she built a shelter for lepers abandoned by their own families. Today, Mahatama Gandhi Kusht (Leprosy) Ashram benefits 100 patients with free medicines, regular checkups, food etc.

Mrs. Jain has a mind boggling routine. She leaves home at 9 a.m. to follow her charitable schedule and returns around 4 p.m.

IMG_1255Saraswati Ji says, Everybody lives for themselves but those who do something for others serve the purpose of humanity in real sense. No other thing can beat the satisfaction I receive when I see happy faces of these patients while receiving little food packets.

Mrs. Jain hardly ever asks for help but if you want to contribute your bit, please feel free to contact us.
