IWB Blogger & Songstress Komal Releases Her Song ‘Defenceless’ & It’s Awesome!

This metal band from Jaipur called ‘Drowning Melancholy’ is launching its first song from its first ever music album todayyyy!!

Are you wondering why am I talking about it? Because, the lead singer of this band is Komal – JWB’s prodigy & one of our dearest Bloggers!

Since today is the D-day for all the members, I decided to seize their nervousness into this story. Interviewing a Progressive Goth Metal Band can result into a fabulously nihilistic and snarky meeting. However, I was lucky. Turned out, they aren’t nervous at all. Below are the excerpts from my amusing chat with the youthful band members Komal (Vocalist), Alvin Stanly (Guitarist & Composer), Rohan (Drummer), Rohit (Guitarist), and Prateya (Bass Guitarist).

Me: Hello, everyone! How excited are you?

Prateya: I have to write my 12th-grade exam today, and I can’t decide how to juggle the anxiousness.

Me: All the best, boy! Alright, let’s begin with learning more about this band and the process of songwriting.

Komal: So I and Alvin came up with the idea to establish ‘Drowning Melancholy’. With time, we got acquainted with our talented Drummer and Guitarists. Alvin composed this song called ‘Defenceless’ that we’re launching today, and I have written it. The journey was fabulous.

Alvin: The initial stage helped us understand one another better, at that, develop the unity among us. All those ideas, compositions, and the disapprovals followed by cold-wars; everything together has made this day possible.

Komal: We recorded the song in Delhi at Musician Keshav Dhar’s studio. It was altogether a different kind of experience for us. I remember how the band would re-track the song to the finalized drum tracks. It was so much fun that helped us bond so well.

Me: I am sure. How do you want to characterize the song ‘Defenceless’?

Rohit: It’s a dark sad melody. People who want to experience the world of Goth will enjoy it.

Prateya: You will, for sure, drown into melancholy.

Rohan: Also, you may feel stronger from inside after listening to it.

Me: How is that so?

Komal: When you listen to the track, the melodic hard music will slowly progress into your soul. You got to be patient. You may not be able to listen to the lyrics quite clearly; however, the tendencies will be felt. At that, the video will help you understand the scattered message in the story.

Rohit: Story’s influences may look modern and sleek, but the concern remains age-old.

Alvin: This story focuses on a major social issue, the issue of how our Indian society treats a girl child.

Me: Now we’re doing the real talk. Go on…

Komal: Everyone around us is supporting the advancement of a girl child, but not everyone knows about the deep-rooted causes that created this ill-scenario. ‘Defenceless’ talks about the exact thing.

Me: And?

Komal: No way we’re revealing more.

Me: Alright alright. But I am happy to learn that your first song centers one of the major issues of the Indian society.

Rohan: We make no sexist songs, you see.

Alvin: Generally, a lot of current music is ashamed for promoting sexism.

Rohit: I agree, in most of the cases.

Me: Is there a boy-girl thing in your band? Any gender differentiation?

Komal: The answer is a clear No. I am never under-looked and my voice is always heard during discussions.

Alvin: We don’t even utter a word to her when she comes late.

Komal: Excuse me!!!!

Me: Lol! How are you planning to promote the album/song?

Komal: We’ve planned to travel across the country, do live shows, meet new people and talk about our artwork.

Me: I like you calling this song an artwork.

Prateya: We’re planning to travel to Delhi, Mumbai, Pune & Bangalore. Of course, we will do one Live show in Jaipur as well.

Me: If someone wants to invite ‘Drowning Melancholy’ for a gig, how can it be done?

Rohan: We have our FB page. You can also find us on SoundCloud and ReverbNation. We’re on Youtube as well in case you want to check out our other videos. Komal looks awesome crooning on the mic.

Komal: Thank you, Rohan!

Me: Lastly, how important is head-banging, long hair and black clothing for you guys?

Rohit: Head-banging is natural. It happens in accord of the music, and ambiance around you. Also, it helps you share similar vibes with fellow participants and listeners.

Komal: Long hair looks beautiful.

Alvin: Girlssssssss!!!!!

Komal: Come on!!

Prateya: Wearing black is a stereotype. It’s because of the kind of dark and vicious music the rock & metal bands play.

Me: I wish you all the best!

Friends here is a sneak-peak from the awesome video, awesome because I got the privilege to witness it before the release (yay!).
