There is a biggg news for all the Chak De India fans! And all the Indians, for that matter!

The Indian Women’s Hockey Team has qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics and this grand feat is occurring after 36 long years! Nicknamed as the Golden Girls of Hockey, the team is all set and eager to fly to Rio next year under the captainship of Ritu Rani. Hear what the 23-year old captain had to say:

“All that we’ve done since we finished fifth at the Hockey World League Semifinals in July is wait. There was always a feeling of uncertainly. The ladies team has done really well over the past few years and we didn’t want to be part of a generation to have never played at the Olympics.”

Their uncertainty came to an end with the following announcement on the International Hockey Federation’s website:

“India qualified after England defeated Spain in the semi-finals of the EuroHockey Championships in London, which ensured that the only teams who can now win the event have already qualified for Rio through the Hockey World League Semi-Finals — Netherlands and England (as Great Britain).”
