48 year old Author Jhumpa Lahiri has been selected for the prestigious 2014 National Humanities Medal. She will be felicitated by US President Barack Obama next week!

The White House said in a statement, “In her works of fiction, Lahiri has illuminated the Indian-American experience in beautifully wrought narratives of estrangement and belonging.”

Born in Bengal, Jhumpa has lived in America all her life. Currently, she is a member of the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities, appointed by Barack Obama, and a professor of creative writing at the Princeton University.

Have you read any of her work? Our favorite is the ‘The Namesake’ which was even made into a movie, remember?
