Despite having featured in several movies earlier, actor Fatima Sana Sheikh rose to fame after playing the character of Geeta Phogat in 2016 Blockbuster movie, Dangal. While many in the industry came out and talked about sexual harassment incidents that they had faced, Fatima doesn’t wish to talk about the details of her experience.
In a recent interview with Mumbai Mirror, Fatima hinted of an incident of sexual harassment faced by her, while she commended the #MeToo movement for providing a platform for victims of sexual harassment. Asking people not to judge her for not divulging much information about the incident, Fatima shared, “I don’t want to expose that side of my life… I’m dealing with it, speaking to people I’m close to. Just like I won’t judge those who want to share their horror stories, I expect not to be judged for not sharing mine.”
Adding to it, she said, “Now sexual predators are scared of being shamed in public and shunned by the industry. For so many years we had normalized assault to such an extent that women had come to accept abuse as something that was normal.”
