Artist Meera Sethi helps to enhance the image of our India aunties. Aunties have a bad reputation in our society. They are often thought to be cooking up gossips and questioning our choices during marriage functions.
Meera’s project and blogspot ‘Upping the Aunty’ is working towards changing this very perception. Recently, she has even launched a coloring book that has over 30 illustrations – some humorous, some subversive, others just plain fun to be colored.
Upping the Aunty: The Colouring Book celebrates an aunty’s sense of style that is yet to hit the runways! Sounds interesting!!
Meera photographs women she meets on the streets, and put these on her website showcasing the dress-sense of these women. Check out her website for street style photographs shot in Canada and India and paintings referencing these photos to explore the iconic “South Asian Aunty”.
