Men in Egypt and other countries of Middle East don’t disclose their mother’s name in public. If her name is known in the public, she becomes a subject of shame and ridicule. It is considered shameful, particularly for men, because people can use it to make rude jokes, the video description explains. So, the women are rather known as ‘the mother of x or y’.
The United Nations wants to change his perception this Mother’s Day through their campaign called “Give Mom Back Her Name.” Here, the men are asked what their mother is called. They laughed it off saying ‘Why?’ The Regional Director of UN Women, Mohammed Naciri, says –
“A woman’s name should never be associated with shame or embarrassment – this Mother’s Day, we are reclaiming that space and recognizing women for the incredible individuals they are.”
