Get Over Leopard Prints, Masaba’s Spring/Summer’18 Collection Has Got Exotic Crocs

Masaba has tossed her biggest print fascination with her collection this season. Moving over the runway-usual cat stripes and zebra spots, she’s gone a step ahead to introduce motifs like Bird’s Eye, Nile Croc, and Tiger Lily.

‘They dip their wings in the sunset, They dash against the air … As if to break themselves upon its stillness: In every movement, too swift to count, Is a revelry of indecision, A furtive delight in trees they do not desire And in grasses that shall not know their weight.’ Leonara Speyer – Taking insight from Leonara Speyer’s poem, The Shallows, this print symbolizes the women that were an inspiration behind the Ready to Wear Collection. Speyer’s poem uses birds as a metaphor for aiming to reach new heights, similar to the modern-age woman who is progressing,as we speak, each day.

Masaba is one designer in the industry who’s taught us not to be afraid of wearing too many prints. With right silhouettes and a little pout, you can actually dominate the world with your style. (Her selfies on Insta stories are proof!)

If you notice carefully, every print has a unique tribal touch to it. The kaleidoscopic tigers and geometric crocs remind me so much of the ancient African and Egyptian rock art.

House of Masaba takes denim for a spin, this season by experimenting with jacquard. Our Nile Croc Print is intricately weaved into denim adding finesse, seen here in a summer trench. Makeup: Priya Lahon, @priyalahon

This is partly inspired by @rheakapoor & her aversion to mediocrity- if I could sum up my day in one word,it would be this. ‘Can’t show skin,Can’t not show some skin,Can’t win. But we can, push back. Moreover, the girl with wild curls has also brought in some unique color palettes with this collection, for example, Powder Sand, Wheat Beige, Spicy Mustard and Croc Green. Girls, I guess it’s time we let these tones dominate our summer wardrobes. Can I get an Amen?

Chanderi makes me think of lucid summer evenings – The saree is & has always been a staple in any Indian woman’s wardrobe but today, as the Indian woman has evolved, so has the saree. The saree has seen many faces at House of Masaba-whether it was the cocoon saree, the denim saree, or most recently, the corset saree. This summer, I bring to you, the Shrug-Saree. Our muse, TJ Bhanu, is wearing the Tiger Lily print Chanderi saree with a shrug . An unconventional and millennial take on a jacket or blazer but far easier to wear, the shrug, provides an elevated aesthetic to a traditional saree. I like that the shrug doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb , on a saree trying to be hip, just for the sake of it. Instead it takes the place of a blouse, set in perhaps the 2000s.
