Every govt. school has a mid-day meal arrangement for the students. According to a new notification that was issued by the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry on Feb 28th, Student without Aadhar registration numbers will no more be able to avail the mid-day meal.
No, the notification doesn’t just limit it all to students, but, in fact, even the cooks, voluntary helpers will be expected to present their Aadhar numbers before stepping in.
The ministry issued this statement, “The use of Aadhaar as an identity document for delivery of services, benefits or subsidies simplifies the government delivery process and enables beneficiaries to get their entitlements directly and in a seamless manner.”
However, not everyone is agreeing with the decision of the HRD ministry.
Activist Dipa Sinha said that the enrollment policy on birth certificates will exclude many children from the scheme.
“In villages, births are noted in anganwadis and panchayats, but nearly 50% of families in north India do not have birth certificates and will get excluded.” She added.
I kinda agree with Dipa, and feel that apart from not being ‘eligible’ for having Aadhar cards, the decision has invited a lot of other issues. Do you agree with the decision of the HRD ministry, let us know in the comments below.
