‘Crimson Peak’: An Un-Sexist Horror Movie Features A Female Monster

If we think about career fields, where the Y chromosome dominates, a two-page list can be created within seconds. But, what about ghosts and monsters, man? We’ve grown up in fear of some of our beloved scary characters from movies and even books!

The minute you hear the word ‘monster’, a gross-looking, evil masculine figure comes to mind. Some of the famous monsters are Dracula, Frankenstein’s prodigy, the Wolfman, the slasher guy in ‘A Nightmare on the Elm street’, etc, etc. Heyyyyyy, women can be scary too! (Ask her if she’s gained some weight, and prepared to get your guts ripped off!)

Women are always portrayed in the form of an evil witch. Bleh. It’s very ‘been there, done that’ now. Turns out the horror movie franchise industry is sexist too!

Horror movie lovers (who are part feminists), behold, there’s a new movie in town. And too with a super scary, female protagonist and men are ones being objectified. They are hunky and seductive. At last, the tables have turned ! He He He. *evil laugh*

Crimson Peak is a breath of fresh air, where the core of the movie is the battle between the virtuous bride Edith (Mia Wasikowska) and her spectacularly unhinged sister-in-law, Lucille (Chastain). Hence, Chastain shrieking in a gorgeous Victorian gown while wielding a meat cleaver. And hence Crimson Peak’s other great distinction: as part of a wave of new horror that focuses on the power of female monsters.

Women in horror movies are either shown taking a bath waiting to be murdered, or running and failing. They are never the ones holding a meat cleaver and running behind a hot hunky guy wearing nothing but teeny-tiny skivvies!

How unfair! Momma needs some eye candy too! All in all, if you are interested in a medieval scandalous affair involving female monsters, ball gowns, and of course blood, go watch Crimson Peak!
