Designer Prabal Gurung has officially pronounced himself as a fan of Gloria Steinem, the 83-year-old activist, and author. It can be said that wishes do come true, as, on Sunday night, Steinem herself sat front row at Gurung’s Spring 2018 show as his guest of honor. And guess what, she was attending a fashion show for the first time!
The designer was so excited that he came out to personally greet her before the runway even began. Last season, the designer sent models down the runway in t-shirts emblazoned with slogans like “Nevertheless, she persisted,” “revolution has borders,” and “I am an immigrant” for the show’s finale.
@prabalgurung Prabal came out BEFORE his show to say hi to Gloria, which is incredible.
Considering that it was the feminist’s icon’s first ever fashion show, she was immensely impressed with Prabal.
There is a first time for everything, even at 83! First #nyfw show @prabalgurung, a kind man doing great work in fashion and beyond.

Steinem wasn’t alone in the front line and was soon surrounded by political peers, starting with the self-described “woke” poet Cleo Wade, who herself was seated next to Hillary Clinton’s former adviser, Huma Abedin. The trio also teamed up with the Black Lives Matter activist DeRay Mckesson and Teen Vogue Editor-in-chief Elaine Welteroth.
Obviously, Prabal Gurung’s excitement was evident and he expressed the same in his tweet.
