This Recent Study Reveals Why You Could Be An Emotional Eater

I rarely eat when I’m emotional. I think more than often, I choose to sleep. Besides, I also tend to lose my appetite when I’m feeling emotional.

Please, don’t take me out of the foodie league. I’m a sincere lover of God’s eternal gift of food. It’s just that I’m not an emotional eater. But, for those of you, who don’t relate themselves with me. I’m going to break the truth to you. Hold your breaths, cuz you’re about to find out why you’re an emotional eater in the first place!

Turns out that maybe it’s our parents who have put us in such a state. According to a recent research, emotional feeding especially at ages 6, 8 and 10, determine the parents’ impact on our eating habits.

When children feel stressed and their parents feed them, which also seems to comfort them, for them, it becomes a habit.

Thus, emotional feeding increased emotional eating, and emotional eating increased emotional feeding,” the researchers said.

“If we can find out what influences the development of emotional eating in young children, parents can be given helpful advice about how to prevent it,” said Dr Silje Steinsbekk, associate professor of psychology at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, who initiated the study.
