The concept of ‘First Wedding Night’ is different for everyone. Some are scared, others are nervous while the rest are super-excited!

Below are seven Indian women from different cultures sharing the stories of what happened during their first night. Enjoy the read!

We tried but could not do it

Shocking as this might sound, but we were both virgins. He was full of ideas about sex and I suffered from the lack of it. We were both young and when left alone (at last) we had no clue what to do, how to start the conversation although the thought of sex dominated both our minds. In all these confusions, we somehow started the act but gave it up when I shouted out in pain.

Clash of ideas

We both belong to different communities and, as expected, there was a difference of opinions when it came to wedding night and I was not even aware of it. When I reached my husband’s place after my ‘vidaai’, I was surprised to discover the concept of ‘kaalratri’ at his place. That took me by surprise because as per the Bengali tradition, we weren’t even allowed to see each other. The wedding night actually happened two days after I left my parent’s place!

Watched ‘Gone With the Wind’

This was my second marriage and his too. Our marriage was fixed by our families since I was a widow and he was a divorcee, and both our children were well-settled. They had booked a hotel room for us after the quick ceremony was over. Although I found it a bit embarrassing at first, when he gifted me a CD of his favorite movie ‘Gone With the Wind’ I forgot everything for it was my favorite too. No prize for guessing, we spent the night watching Scarlett and Rhett Butler.

I could not even kiss

You think wedding night is all about sex? But before that comes to a whole lot of smiling during the reception—I was smiling at the guests, cameraman, videographer, relatives and for every possible thing, that moved. After smiling for unimaginable hours, my facial muscles gave up on me. Forget about sex, I did not even have the strength to pucker up for a kiss.

Too tired to do it

I had a very unlikely wedding night. We were on the dais till midnight since guests kept pouring in till late hours. We were very tired by the time everything got over. And when we hit the bed, we could think of nothing but a good night’s sleep.

He came too soon

I had always dreamt of a fabulous wedding night. We had a long-distance relationship and saw him after six months of our wedding. Obviously, we were very excited and could hardly wait for the day to end. Finally, when we were alone and just started the act, my husband suddenly looked embarrassed and that is when I discovered that he had already come.

Was scared that we will wake up his parents

It was pretty weird for me because my husband stayed with his parents and we had to spend our wedding night in their house. Unfortunately, our bedroom was just next to their bedroom. No matter how excited we were, we had to keep it really low.
