Do you remember the horrific case of the Park Street gang rape? In 2012, an Anglo-Indian mother of two named Suzette Jordan was gang-raped by 3 men. Ruman Khan (32), Sumit Bajaj (34) and Naser Khan (32) were later found guilty.
She was beaten up and gang-raped at gunpoint inside a moving car and then thrown off the vehicle near a city intersection on the night of February 5, 2012, after she came out of a nightclub on Kolkata’s Park Street. Suzette died in March this year of multi-organ failure due to an illness.
We’re happy that the accused have now been convicted and are sentenced to 10 years of the rigorous imprisonment and ordered to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh each by a sessions court on Friday (11 December 2015).
Remember how this case caught the limelight after the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleged that the incident was staged to malign her government. One of her party MPs even said the incident was a deal gone awry between the woman and her clients. Disgusting.
Anyway, all’s well that ends well.
